World Day of Social Justice: Advocating for Children’s Rights

As the world commemorates the World Day of Social Justice today, it’s imperative to highlight the importance of upholding justice for children globally.

Despite the significant progress made by some governments, institutions and organizations in advancing children’s rights, millions of children still face grave injustice, inequity and inequality. Countless children continue to endure poverty, discrimination, and marginalization, and depravation.

The theme of this year’s World Day of Social Justice, is “Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances.” This Theme underscores the urgent need to address economic disparities that disproportionately impact vulnerable children. It calls for the eradication of discriminatory practices and the empowerment of every child.

Empowering children from marginalized communities requires concerted efforts from governments, civil society organizations, businesses, and individuals. It involves investing in social programs, advocating for policy reforms, and promoting equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their socio-economic status. Every child deserves access to basic necessities of life, such as education, healthcare, and protection from exploitation and violence.

If we each play our parts through our everyday choices of ensuring inclusivity, showing empathy, and showing respect for the next child’s fundamental human rights, we can create a more equitable society where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

This is a clarion call to every person that has a voice or an ability to act, to renew our commitment to promoting social justice particularly for children and advocating for their rights, everywhere; they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Let us build alliances and collaborations across various sectors, to enable us work together to bridge the gaps and create a more inclusive society where every child has access to the right kind of knowledge, education, healthcare, and a safe environment to thrive.
